David E. Wilson

Services for David E. Wilson were Saturday, Feb. 24, 2006 at 2 p.m. in the New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Soper. David died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006 in Soper. He was 72.

David was born Oct. 8, 1933 in Boswell, Okla., the son of John Billy Wilson and Margaret (Sharkey) Wilson. He worked in commercial construction for many years including working for Henry C. Beck Construction Co. He married Winnie Charlene Rogers on Oct. 19, 1964 in New Mexico. They moved back to the Soper area in 1986. He was a member of the New Jerusalem Baptist Church for the past 10 years, serving as Deacon. He was known for visiting friends and helping people out, getting them to church, enjoying his grandchildren, and pestering his wife.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Winnie Charlene Wilson, on Jan 17, 2006; two sisters: Wilma Colbert and Dorothy Colbert; one son, Bobby Ray Wilson and a grandson, Jesse Matthews.

Surviving relatives include four daughters: Mary Jane Jackson of Cedar Hill, Texas; Christina Rucker of Soper, Okla., Ellon Matthews, Enid, Okla., and Rebecca Mantilia of Fairfield, Conn.; three sons: Daniel Wilson, Antlers, Okla., David Wilson, Jr., Muskogee, Okla., and Michael Watson, Honda, Texas; one sister, Gladys Baccus of McAlester, Okla., 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Family received friends Friday, Feb. 24, at the Mt. Olive Funeral Chapel.

Rev. Silas McFarland officiated the service and burial was in the Soper Cemetery under the direction of Mt. Olive Funeral Home of Hugo.
