W. N. Oakes Dies Saturday; Rites Today
Funeral services for W. N. Oakes, 78, a Choctaw County resident all his life, were held at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon in Grant Baptist church. Henry Everidge, of Hugo, officiated and Lampton Funeral Home made burial in Grant cemetery.
Mr. Oakes was born May 12, 1890, a son of Charles and Margaret Ann (Buchanan) Oakes, at their home southeast of Hugo. He lived on Ervin Route most of his life before moving to Hugo Convalescent Home, where he died Saturday morning at 8 o'clock. He was a retired farmer and descendant of one of this county's pioneer families.
Three daughters and three sons who survive him are: Mrs. Jessie Kitchens, Gilbert Oakes and Walter Oakes, Garland, Tex.; Mrs. Robbie Warrington, Okemah; Mrs. Ruby Johnson, Frisco, Tex., and Buddy Oakes, Plano, Tex.
Twenty-six grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren survive him with five sisters, all of Hugo. They are Mrs. M.N. McFarland, Mrs. Belle Bennett, Mrs. Harriet Cody, Mrs. Martha Smith, and Mrs. Florence Dodson.
