Troy Raines

Funeral services for Troy Raines of Hugo will be held at 4
p.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at Mt. Olive Funeral Home
Chapel. Burial will be in Goodland Cemetery.
Mr. Raines died Monday, June 5, 2006 at Choctaw Memorial
Hospital in Hugo. He was 76.Troy Raines was born May 13,
1930 in Hazen, Arkansas, the son of Jake and Addie Lee
(Greenwood) Raines. He married Betty Jo Taylor on April 5,
1945 in Arkansas. He worked for a short time in Kansas as a
welder in a ship yard and as a sharecropper in Arkansas
before moving to Texas. Once in Texas he worked as a
cowboy, cutting hay, breaking horses and branding cattle.
His last job as a cowboy was for Jackie Norris near
Goodland. He moved his family to Hugo in 1963. Troy
enjoyed hunting, gun collecting, and gardening. He was
preceded in death by one brother: R.B. Raines; two sisters:
Mittie Asbury and Maggie McDonald.
Surviving relatives: Wife of 61 years: Betty Jo Raines of the
home; One Son: Troy Lynn Raines Jr. of Breckenridge,
Texas; Two Daughters: Nova Zett and her husband, Larry of
Willis, Texas, Sherry Ann Raines of Hope, Ark.; Brother:
Barney Lee Raines of Tennessee; Sister: Mable Carpenter of
Searcy, Ark.; eight Grandchildren and 19
Great-Grandchildren.
