Charles Fred “Bud” Strawn

contributed by The Hugo Daily News

Funeral services for Charles Fred “Bud” Strawn were held at
2 p.m. on June 10, 2006 at the Restland Cemetery in
Boswell.

Mr. Strawn passed away Thursday, June 8, at his home in
Boswell. The services were preceded by a noon luncheon at
the First Baptist Church of Boswell.

Bud Strawn was born on April 10, 1928 to Milo “Mike” and
Della Strawn. He served as a Lieutenant in the Army from
1951 - 1954. Following the Army, he attended Arlington
State College (later the University of Texas) in Arlington,
Texas. Bud married his first wife, Margaret June Bennight, in
1952. Their first child Mary was born in 1953, followed in
succession by James, Elizabeth, Kathleen, Linda, and Joel.
Bud married again in 1974 to Dinah Elaine Matthies. With his
marriage to Dinah, Bud gained three additional children,
daughter, Lee Ann, and sons, Mark and Matthew. Bud was
an electronics engineer by trade with numerous patents for
electronic devices. He worked for Collins Radio, LTV,
Johnson Controls, and MCI, among others in his long career
as an engineer.

Bud’s love of inventing and engineering arts was whetted by
electronics; however, after he retired he spent his life in
happy pursuit of engineering challenges of all kinds at his
home in Boswell. Above all, Bud loved family and home. The
family he built dearly loved him and is a soaring testament to
his continued devotion to them.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents, Milo “Mike” and
Della Strawn; his daughter, Kathleen; and, brother, George.

He is survived by his children, Mary Elkins of DeQueen, Ark.;
James Strawn of Marietta, Ga.; Elizabeth Strawn of Azle,
Texas; Linda Melancon of Prairieville, La.; Joel Strawn of
Palmetto, Fla.; Lee Ann Holloway of Fort Worth, Texas;
Mark Stilwell of Fort Worth, Texas and Matthew Stilwell of
Fort Worth, Texas; 17 grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren.
