West, Ray E.

Services for Ray West will be Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, in the Miller & Miller Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. Ray died on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, in Hugo, Okla. He was 71.
Ray E. West was born June 5, 1937, in Sawyer, Okla., the son of Earl D. West and Leona (Inge) West. He enjoyed fishing, feeding the birds, loved to laugh, enjoyed working on boats and loved his grandkids and great grand kids. Ray was very involved in the Fort Towson and Sawyer Volunteer Fire Departments and was instrumental in construction and formation of both fire departments. He was an auto-marine mechanic and master carpenter. He married Hazle Murphy on June 1, 1959 in DeQueen, Ark. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Sawyer, a charter member of Hugo Bass Club, a member and lifetime Captain of the Sawyer Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Fort Towson Volunteer Fire Department.
Ray is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Beatrice Mahaffey. Surviving relatives include his wife, Hazle (Murphy) West, children: Marsha Magby of Ft. Towson, Mike Magby of Ft. Towson, Debi and Leslie Clay of Hugo, Mark Rowden of Blythe, CA, Tony West of Dallas, TX, Salomon Rojas of Dallas, TX, Daryl West of Sheridan, WY, and Kim Achziger of Sheridan, WY; brother-in-law, Joe Mahaffey of Ft. Towson; Grandchildren: Chad Magby, Kristin and Kaleb Payne, Aaron Rowden and Becca Rowden, Jennifer and Preston Kemp, Sarah Rowden, Bailey Clay, Daymon West and Kaden West; Great Grandkids: Kayden Payne, Nadalie Rowden, William Kemp, and Matthew Kemp; a special and faithful friend, Pete Crane; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other family and friends.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, from 6-8 p.m. Officiating the service will be Bro. Brent Coffey. Interment will follow in the Ft. Towson Cemetery under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
