Family Reminisces
by Sharon Knox Butts
My grandmother use to tell me
stories about Hugo. My Grandparents were Luther and Pearl Knox.
She and her family came to Hugo with a wagon train. She would
tell me that by the end of the day she would be so tired from walking. They had
a wagon, I can not remember for sure why but she could not ride it. She told
stories about some one getting sick, and a family had to stay behind because a
woman gave birth to a baby. The times were so different back then. She told me
how in her day the women were not to be seen when PG, I had to ask what if some
one comes over what she would “we would hide in the bedroom.”
They had two homes in Hugo one was at 310 E. Bluff. I also
have a paper from the First United Methodist Church when they were celebrating
their 75th anniversary. They had members who had been in the church
for 50 years or more sign the paper. My grand mother (Mrs. Luther Knox) was
first on the list. She joined the church in 1909. A few others that you might
have heard of are:
Some miscellaneous information
I hope my information is helpful or at lease enjoyable to you.
Thanks,
Sharon
