ISENBERG and HOUSTON
Meg
Greenwood 12 Oct 2006
Am working on a line of ISENBERGs that
originated in Gasconade county, MO. Mabel
ISENBERG married Cecil HOUSTON, I find
them in Devol in the 1920 census with 2 children under 3 years and a
brother-in-law, George ISENBERG who died a few
days after the census from a flu epidemic. Another child was born Waurika
in Aug. 1921.
I am hoping there is someone who might be able to assist me in finding
out where to look for ISENBERG and
HOUSTON records in the Devol area/ I have a
postcard with "Devol High" handwritten on it, it shows 7 students, 4 women
and 3 men sitting on a grassy field, among them is my paternal grandmother,
Minnie Edna ISENBERG [went by
Edna]. She was born 1897 in Missouri and
married 1919 in Lawton, OK.
I could order LDS films but I am not sure of the year this class
would have graduated, yet I suspect 1915 if she was 18 when this occurred.
Do I need a library ? A local Genealogy society? A History
Museum? Can someone point me in the right direction to find school
records for Edna and hopefully pictures if my
Grandmother indeed graduated from Devol High around 1915. Possibly
death records for George ISENBERG on Jan 20th
and perhaps birth records for Victor HOUSTON
who was 1 yr old in the 1920 census [taken Jan 16] seen as born in Oklahoma
to Cecil HOUSTON and Mabel ISENBERG. Need
pointed in the right direction..... Meg Greenwood / Bartlesville, OK

HOLT
Darlene S. Allen 15 Mar 2006
My father, Michael Edgar HOLT, says his father, George Andrew HOLT, was born in Oklahoma Territory in 1902. George's parents were Rufus and Margaret HOLT. I don't have Margaret's maiden name but Dad says she was from around the Louisiana area. Dad says when George Andrew was 8 years of age, in 1910, they moved from Oklahoma to. Bakersfield, California. George Andrew eventually went to Topnish, Washington and I believe to Oregon. He married Esther Sabra COCHRAN, my grandmother, who's family is of Oregon, COLEMAN's and COCHRAN's. Any information on Rufus, Margaret or George would be appreciated. George ended up dying at a young age, 40ish, in Oregon. Probably about 1968-1969 as I only have one memory of him and was probably 2ish when he died. My father, Michael , is an only child but has HOLT cousins so George must have had b & s's at some point. Rufus would have fathered them too. Any info is much appreciated.

Family stories lead me to believe he moved here about 1907 from Greene Co AR with his son, David (Dave) b.1877, his wife Emma WITHERSPOON, and son, Theron (about 2 years old). HC had two stepdaughters, Mary and Nancy, who stayed in AR. His other children were Aquilla b.1868, Hardy b.1872, Charlie b.1873. When Dave and HC moved to Stiglet Indian Territory (Randlett), Aquilla & husband, JD Maddox, Hardy and wife, Georgia, and Charlie and daughter, Jewel moved to Oregon. Other information on H C , I have includes he served in the Confederate Army in XXX Missouri Light Artillery and a family story says he had no more contact with his family after the Civil War (they apparently served on opposite sides). Although she was blind, my Dad said that whenever one of the grandkids went to see her, she knew exactly which one was in the room with her before they ever spoke. He said they only went to visit her about five times. Even so, she made a great impression on him. Any information on either William or Nancy would be greatly appreciated.

In her younger years she was known throughout the communities where
she lived as a most excellent nurse and was never too busy or tired to
go to a friend or neighbor, or anyon who needed her help in times of
sickness, sorrow, or distress. As long as her strength would permit,
she loved to visit the sick and take them appetizing dishes she knew
so well how to prepare.
She pocessed unusual business ability, successfully managing her
business affairs through many years of widowhood and looking after
them herself until the end. She was member of the Methodist Church for
thirty-seven years.
She had a grandaughter Beauton KOOKEN was a long time teacher since
1925 and retired in 1962. Beauton's father ran an ice and coal
delivery. Need to know what cemetary Sarah is buried in or any
information that could be provided.
