I believe Temple was originally named Botsford when it was begun in 1901. The name was later changed to Temple after Temple Houston, a lawyer in old Greer County and Oklahoma Territory, and the son of General Sam Houston.
At one time there was a general store called the B & O that would draw customers from miles around. Sears was in Temple for many years. When Sears moved to Lawton in 1954, they gave their building to the town. Haggar Slacks moved into the building and was there for many years until it closed in 1990.
The Temple Tribune, the weekly newspaper that was started before statehood, closed in 1976. I wonder if it is on microfilm at the Oklahoma Historical Society? The Temple Times was published in the late 1970s for a year or two.
