I found out that when a patient died in this hospital, they buried the unclaimed bodies on their property. We had a Grandfather, who we found out was admitted into that hospital in 1928. We were told that he died in that year, but yet he is on the 1930 census. I was looking for someone who might be willing to check out their cemetary, and look for an Ezekiel Starr, born 18 June 1881.

I have a Robert Barker, whose parents were Lawrence Lonzo Barker, Jr. and Hildreth Haverfeld. His age and date of death would be consistent with the Robert you are researching.

I descend from Lawrence Lonzo's father, Lawrence Alonzo Barker and his first wife Rhoda Ann Summers. Their eldest daughter, Emaline Barker, was my paternal grandmother.

Hello, Could you give some info on the name of the person that you are searching for? Were they visiting local relatives in Vinita? Where were they from? Perhaps there would be an obit back home where they were from that would give you some info. Lots of people working on this area, but it might get you some answers if you were to include some identification about the person you are searching info on.
Just trying to be helpful, I am a local-born girl from 1943..

What I have is very basic info:

Name: James Monroe Richards...
AKA: Jim Richards or J.M. Richards
DOB: 06-09-1855 Georgia
Home town at time of death: Mena, Arkansas

I have a tiny obit from the Mena, Arkansas paper mentioning his death... that has no date on it. It had stated he had died while visiting Vinita, Oklahoma when he passed away. (His wife was not with him on the trip.) But did not state exactly who he was visiting.

I tried to get a death certificate from the State which of course they did not have on file. Which is so common with them if the death is before 1950. So I was looking for some kind local proof when he died. Its one of those things I have ran into a brick wall with and never have found him... he is also my g-grandfathers twin brother and I would like to find him...

I have a copy of the Bluejacket cemetery listings as done by my mother's cousin, Viola Taylor. On page 22, it lists:
Sarah J., wife of A. J. Gullet, b. March 4, 1835 died Apr 1, 1889;
A. J. Gullett, July 15, 1830-March 6, 1896
G. W., son of A.J. & S.J. Gullett, Feb 8, 1862-Mar 26, 1890
Bessie M., dau of MAA. & M.E. Gullett, Aug 6, 1883-July 9, 1898
Gullett, Mary E., 1863-1947
Baby Myrtle E. dau of MAA. & M.E. Gullett 1895-1896

Bluejacket is where my mother's people are all buried as well as my father and my two brothers. Our names there are: SWIFT, Taylor, RHOTEN, HIGHTOWER, McCOY, etc

I forgot to mention: I checked the two volumes of the Vinita city cemetery, Fairview by Wanda Norton and Dorothy Nix, and there are no GULLETTs listed.

These are names abstracted from the microfilms of the papers Indian Chieftain and the Daily Chieftain.. I believe that the microfilms are at the Vinita Public Library, genealogy department.

Thank you so very much! I had not been back to this site for awhile so I am late with my words of appreciation.

Was the Bluejacket Cemetery originally an Indian Cemetery? If so, did the early burials need to be at least part Indian? Sarah J.Gullett, buried there in 1889, was the sister of my ggrandmother. We think that their father, b. about 1813 in NC, might have had an Indian mother.

Hello, In the past few years, have heard it called an "Indian cemetery", but that is basically because it was started when Oklahoma was "Indian Territory". I have never heard it said that you HAD to be indian to be buried there and indeed my people were NOT indian and they have been there since after statehood. The name "Bluejacket" was derived from the settlement or village there of a family called Bluejacket. I am not an authority on indian study, but from what I have read the original one was a white boy abducted(?) by some of the indians and he was wearing a blue jacket which was traditionally made out of blue linsey woolsey material, therefore the name given him was that of "Bluejacket". He married one of the indian girls and they were part of the group to come to that area of Oklahoma.

I am on the board at White Oak cemetery and i hope i can help you. There are several terry and freeman's buried at this cemetery. If you send me your address to my e-mail i will print off all the info from my cemetery book and send it to you. here are some that you asked about....

I'm trying to find any info. on Henry Moore & Annie Taylor Moore. I found a name of John J. Moore who was in the Spanish-American War. We're having a hard time finding info. on the Moore's & the Taylor's. They had children.

They played at the Kiamichi Mountains in Oklahoma when they was little kids. They may have moved to Burkburnett, Texas or Wichita Falls, Texas.
They might be Choctaw Indians as well. Just stories my husband remembers when his Granny told him. Ruth Green raised her grandson Jimmy Green .

Don't know of any mines around Vinita but there were strip-pits west and north of Vinita. McNab is the oldest company we can think of and that was about World War II time frame.

The Bennets (Father & Son) had a underground coal mine located north of Shanahan school, They worked up to, and during WWll. Later the son moved to Vinita and worked for Charley Powell as night man at his garage, then later had his own shop on E Illinois. The grandson Bob was a driver for Leeway for many years before retiring to Eufalla.(He passed away a couple of years ago)

Charles ASKEY and Josephine J. SELLMAN   637

Interested in contacting the descendants of Charles ASKEY and Josephine SELLMAN. According to censuses, Charles was born about 1865 in Pennsylvania. He was married to Josephine J. SELLMAN who was born 15 March 1868 in Hamtramck, Wayne Co., Michigan. She was the daughter of (Johan) Anthony SELLMAN and Katherine TYSON. Josephine immigrated to Kansas with her mother, step-father (Caspar SCHMIDT) and 6 of her siblings. She married Charles 28 January 1890 in Ottawa County, Kansas. I have found the following children on various census:

Agnes b. February 1891
Lloyd b. December 1892
Catherine b. January 1895
Josephine b. July 1898
Edna M. ca. 1901-1902
Genevia (sic) ca. 1905-1906
Carl ca. 1911-1912

The last information that I have found was the 1930 census where Charles, Josephine, Lloyd and Carl were living in No. 4 Township, Craig County, Oklahoma.

According to her mother's probate records (May 2, 1910), Josephine requested permission of the court to get papers from the bank that belonged to her mother. Also the probate records show that there was a family bible and pictures. Hoping that someone who descended from Josephine may have the above papers/pictures and would be interested in sharing them with other SELLMAN descendants.

Hello Fellow Researchers, Would anyone happen to have a Fairview Cemetery listing for Vinta or Vinita, OK? I am looking for any Revel, Revell or Revelle buried there. I would appreciate any help I can get on this. I have not been able to find a cemetery listing on the Internet. Is Craig Co., OK also the same county for Wister, OK cemeteries? I am also looking for Revel(le) folks in cemeteries in that town as well. Could you offer any names of cemeteries in Wister, OK? Thanks very much for your time and consideration.

There are no Revel, or variate spellings in Fairview at Vinita. Wister is in LeFlore county in southeast Oklahoma

YOUNG, James Dixon died in Cardin January 11,1926   639

I am looking for any infomation on my great-grandfather. I would like to know what kind of place Cardin might have been in the 1920's. Was it a farming town? Was there an old folks home there? Does Cardin have a cemetary?

I know very little about him. He was born in Polk co. ARK on Feb 11,1857. In searching the internet I have found he had several families. Three wives I know of; Sarah Blackwood, Anna Louiza Brock, and Elinor ? My grandmother knew her father as J.D. or Dick Young.

Cardin is in Ottawa county. It doed not have a cemetery, he would probably be buried at GAR Cemetery, Miami. Put your query on Ottawa county borad.
