Private

Company A, 11th Texas Cavalry

Born May, 1843 in Kentucky

Died July 2, 1909 in Cooke County, Texas

John lived in Wynnewood in 1900 as evidenced by the U.S. census.  Prior to this he was in Grayson County, Texas in 1865 and in 1881 he had a drug store in Gainesville, Texas; Morgeson & Company on Denton Street.   He also owned and operated a drug store while living in Wynnewood.

John left Wynnewood sometime after he applied for his Southern Cross of Honor on March 17, 1908, and before his death in July of 1909.

John and Mary J. Morgeson were married on January 3, 1867 in Cooke County, Texas.

Mary applied for a Confederate pension in Texas in Cooke County.  Pension # 43511.  She lists her husband as John Clayton Morgeson and she is listed as his wife in the 1900 census of Wynnewood.

In 1893, the business directory of Duncan, Oklahoma, lists Morgeson Brothers Druggists, between 3rs and 4th streets on Main.   The two brothers are: J.C. Morgeson, Jr. and S.T. Morgeson, sons of John Clayton and Mary J. Morgeson.

John Clayton Morgeson enlisted in the Confederate Army on October 2, 1861 at Camp Reeves, Texas, and served till the end of the War, being paroled in May, 1865, by the Uankee government.  His ame appears on a prisoner-of-war list in May, 1865.
