Johnston County is 645 square miles.
The population was 10,513 in 2000.
Tishomingo is the county seat.

The 1896 Chickasaw Capital building became the County Court House at statehood in 1907.
The county was named for Douglas H. Johnston, governor of the Chickasaw Nation.

William H. "Alfalfa Bill" Murray and Johnston Murray, father and son governors of Oklahoma, and
entertainer Gene Autry are from Johnston County.
